UP IN THE AIR

So, this is the last review I'm doing from the 2009. Golden Globes are next week so I'll be going through the list of those films and write reviews for films that I really liked on their list. I've already seen about half of them, some are going to be on dvd soon so I hope to watch them before than. And of course Oscar noms will be out soon...so then there's that. But in the meantime, here is in fact one of the films that made the Globes list and will more than likely make the Oscar list.

To start off with talking about UP IN THE AIR, have to mention the amazing cast that takes on this really well done film. George Clooney is exceptional, though I admit he always does an amazing job. I think after this year with Up In the Air, Fantastic Mr.Fox, and even Men Who Stare At Goats he just continued to do an exceptional job and is becoming of my favorite actors to date. Even when he's in a bad film, he tends to do a good job. He's won an Oscar for supporting actor and has been nominated for a lead role, but this should be his film that actually gets him the leading actor award. He well deserves it.

Aside from Clooney; Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick do an outstanding job in their supporting role performances. I loved Vera in the Departed a few years ago, aside from that I haven't really seen here in anything. But this was an incredbily well done job by her. And Anna Kendrick, being before this the only thing I saw her in were the Twilight films I was a little reserved in her being in a movie like this, but she totally played her character well and impressed me very much. Vera Farmiga played such a seductive and easy going character that helped balance George Clooney's calm and also stressed character, as well as Kendrick's ability to stire a little bit of youthfulness into both characters. And also with smaller but great appearances from JK Simmons and Jason Bateman.

It was really hard to not like this film. Jason Reitman, the director of JUNO, did another great job with this film. It was definitely another one of those cheesy rom-com's with a little more edge and semi-depressing turn outs; but that's what makes it so good. I think it's nice to see a film that takes away the always wonderful happy endings and adds a little more realism to them (or at least a little bit of a different side). It definitely has that same feeling that JUNO did, and I think that helps it run for the Oscar. Not that its entirely it, but the movie has its own persona and feel that makes it a wonderful movie.

The story itself was heart warming yet sad. It helps someone who have a perspective and a solid idea about the world see a different light entirely. It's not entirely depressing, but it makes you think about your life but not necessarily in a dim light but a different perspective.

Overall, it was a very well done movie. There wasn't anything to speak bad about it. Definitely my pick to win the Oscar come the season.
