COMIC BOOKS RULE THE BIG SCREEN...

If you look at the date, its only a short wait until IRON MAN 2 hits the big screen, and everyone is excited.

Ten years ago, if someone said "the new IRON MAN movie comes out soon", the casual movie goer would look at you and say, "the new what?" The age of comic book "nerds" has come to an end, and comic books have become a pop culture, mainstream phenomenon. More and more people are coming out as comic book readers, and its going beyond the usual BATMAN, SUPERMAN, or SPIDER-Man persona. Characters like Iron Man, Thor, and Green Lantern are being made and changing the way the world looks at comics.

IRON MAN, that was released just two years opened the doors for MARVEL STUDIOS and their reign as a dominating factor on the silver screen. THOR and CAPTAIN AMERICA are already on their way to be big forces in 2011, both with great growing casts. THOR packing a little know lead actor in Chris Hemsworth, and backed with Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins. Its sure to be a mega hit. CAPTAIN AMERICA, being led by recently casted Chris Evans strives to be just as big. Of course both films are leading up to the Joss Whedon directed AVENGERS, due for a Summer 2012 release.

On the other side at the recently proclaimed DC Entertainment has already started work on GREEN LANTERN, also with a storming cast (Ryan Reynolds, Mark Strong, and Tim Robbins). And of course there's the wait for Chris Nolan's BATMAN 3 and the recently rumored announced SUPERMAN reboot helmed by brother John. Waiting on a more dominating factor from the DC world, but they definitely have a power in the box office world with the DARK KNIGHT being station at #3 of all time in domestic totals at half a billion.

With other small projects like KICK-ASS, LOSERS, JONAH HEX, and SCOTT PILGRIM plaguing the big screen this year its definitely a comic book domianted world. It energizes the world of comic writers, artists, editiors, and readers alike. The world (of film) is changing and I'm like the way its going...

MARVEL and DC for life!!!

2010 So Far....

Once again behind on my film reviews of the year. It's already April and I've seen about a dozen or so films. Not that impressive of a year so far, nothing really stands out except for SHUTTER ISLAND and IMAGINARIUM OF DR.PARANSUSS. Everything else has been pretty minimal...

Youth in Revolt - 7/10
Lovely Bones - 7/10
Percy Jackson & the Olympians - 7/10
Cop Out - 7/10
Alice in Wonderland - 7/10
She's Out of My League - 7/10
Hot Tub Time Machine - 7/10
Clash of the Titans - 7/10
Book of Eli - 6/10
Wolfman - 5/10
Bounty Hunter - 3/10

In other news, I'm relieved to finally see Marvel's Studio comics movies come together. I'm a little annoyed with the selection of Chris Evans for Captain America, I was hoping for someone but it could of been worse (and also of better). But THOR is coming together really well, and only a month until IRON MAN 2. EXCITED!!!

Also, I was happy to see HURT LOCKER winning the Oscar instead of the overrated AVATAR. I don't think it was the worst film in the world, but it wasn't as good as everyone said it was. And it started the chain reactions of 3D films in cinemas, which is upsetting because the technology is cool but I don't get why it was has to be for every big movie now. I think it takes away from the film, because eventually movies will only be made so that they can be in 3D. So, I want to say "THANKS" James Cameron for revolutionizing the film industry...BLAH!
