TOP 10 OF 2012

#9
When it comes to horror films, I'll admit I am not the first person in line or generally someone who is keen to see them in the big screen. Is it because I'm scared? Yes, not because of the scary scenes or characters but because the movies are just not entertaining. They're all very scripted and stapled in a certain way. But when Cabin in the Woods came out, it was a completely different (I went opening day). Why? Joss Wheddon. The man of the year when it came to films this year, currently Marvel and Disneys hero. Now, I'll give him his due for Avengers later, but first there is this indy made, feeling fun of a horror film. Written and produced by the man Wheddon, but directed by co-writer Drew Goddard (also wrote Lost and Cloverfield), but it definitely has the thrill and fun of a Joss Wheddon production. An original take of classic horror films mixed with the comedic entertainment of ridiculous plot and characters, the human element adds that classic gory film design and the monsters put the chill in your spine. Filled with new faces (with the exception of Chris Hemsworth) it gives the classic horror genre that staple of fresh blood being splashed across the screen. Now the overall story and the visuals are a little over the top, and at times over done, its that stuff that makes this a fun movie to watch, laugh, and just pleasurely enjoy. I have never been disappointed by Joss Wheddon, even though television stations apparently are, and the fact that he continues to amaze with his creativity and individualism makes this movie that much more enjoyable.
