TOP 10 OF 2012

#8
The past few years of Pixar, I haven't been blown away quiet like everyone else (with the exception of last years Cars 2 - everyone but the kiddies were saddened by Pixars first critical failure), but I'm pretty hard to please when it comes to the "kiddie" films. Now, I don't dislike any of the other Pixar releases, I was just not blown away by Toy Story 3 or even Up, in fact the last one I thoroughly enjoyed was Wall-E. But that changed this summer by their latest venture, Brave. A combination of classic Disney princess glory mixed with Pixars emotionally driven plot it is definitely my favorite Pixar film since the Incredibles. A very emotional tale of a young princess who must overcome the dangers of wanting her independence and explore her free spirit, touches the hearts and captures the audiences attention. Now, I'm not one to get emotional when it comes to film but this one was very heart felt and emotionally driven. Kids film tend to center around coming of age, beating personal demons, or righting against a wrong; and Brave displays all those and more. Pixar tends to lean more towards an older audience as well the kids, which is a strong reason they are superior when it comes to the dominance in kid and family friendly films. Their goal is to move the audience, and they tend to always do this. And the fact that Pixar is the prominent and dominant when it comes to the cgi industry of kids films, it's not surprise that each film (with the exception of Cars 2) gets such a strong critical review and and love. The visually beauty of Pixar is blown apart in Brave, the landscape and details of each scene are such a spectacle, that at times you forget its animated. Now, the characters themselves still havethat Disney-esqe look, but look at the detail of nature; trees, water, mountains, they are amazing. I look forward to Pixar films all the time, and this made me continue to starve for what they have to come.
